Eve and Steve met in Kihei in 1991 when Eve was visiting Hawaii to see the total eclipse of the sun. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Maui and they got married. Together they run Makena Coast Dive Charters and have the Sacred Garden Retreat vacation rental and Heart Path Journeys Retreats in Makawao. Steve is also a professional underwater cinematographer and Eve is an author, speaker and relationship specialist.

Captain Steve Hogan started Makena Coast Dive Charters in 1985. In addition to being a USCG Captain and Dive Instructor he is an award winning cinematographer specializing in underwater photography.  Steve has shot underwater for NatGeo Wild, Discovery, the Travel Channel, ABC and several other productions.  Steve has lived and dived in Hawaii for over 30 years. Benja was born and raised in Chile and is a well-known professional photographer. He has had his photos in magazines such as Sport Diver, Alert Diver, Spare Air, Ocean Kayak, and Aloha Airlines. John Nelson

USCG Captain, Photographer, Dive Instructor

In addition to working with Makena Coast Dive Charters, John has traveled extensively as a flight attendant for Hawaiian Airlines and is fluent in Japanese. His life revolves around the ocean, loves fishing and is also an excellent videographer and photographer.

The “Makena Mele” (Song of Makena) is a custom-built Force Marine dive boat made on the Big Island.

It is a 35′ vessel, has a cabin for shade.

The Makena Mele is comfortable and fast, getting to and from Molokini Crater and Makena dive sites within 15-20 minutes from the Kihei Boat Ramp.

We have dry storage space for your extra gear. It is not wise to leave valuables in your rental car.

How do you decide who to dive with? Try calling us, ask some questions…then call the other guys. Be sure to ask about hidden fees, fuel charges and safety record! We’re pretty confident you’ll be calling us back.
